There are basically two options when it comes to parental control apps for Android. Either you can make use of the features that comes installed within the Android phone or use software applications that have been created by private firms for Android smartphones. The advantage of the former is that you need not pay anything extra as the feature is already present but the disadvantage is that this app does not provide complete restriction or protection to your child. The advantage of using the latter option is that you get complete parental control over the child’s activities on the Net as well as the phone but the disadvantage being that the app is expensive.

Depending on the kind of control that you want to exercise, you can choose the parental control apps for Android accordingly. Let’s take a look at how to set up the application on your Android Smartphone.

The application can found under the Settings tab of your phone which on clicking will provide an option for content filtering. You can then select the applications that you do not want your child to use like Internet browser, video download etc. Once you make the selection, the phone automatically blocks or filters these applications on the home screen. A big benefit that you have here is that you can create an overall restriction or individually select only those applications which you want to restrict your child from using. Also, once the phone is rebooted, automatic restart of the application takes place. The Safe Sandbox on your home screen displays only those applications which have been allowed and not those which have been restricted.

While using other parental control apps for Android, you need to first purchase the application and then install this on your phone. You also need to register with the website of the company providing the app so that you can receive regular updates of what your child is up to on your phone. Using such apps, you can view all kinds of content that goes in and out of the Android like instant messages, emails and text messages. You can also view the photos and videos shared which will help you find out if your child is viewing any age-inappropriate content. This kind of parental control software also has GPS enabled in the app which helps you in keeping tabs on where your child is while he is with the phone.
